The storage hidden under the step — I'm proud of this one
In a van, every cubic centimeter is money, is weight, is a trade-off about whether it's worth sacrificing headroom.
The step by the door was just a dead block of wood. Today I turned it into a drawer — it pulls out from the side, exactly right for tools and a box of emergency food. When you step on it getting in and out, you'd never guess anything's hidden underneath.
Nothing high-tech. But that feeling — "a dead space, brought back to life" — kept me happy for a whole day.
The joy of building often hides in exactly this kind of small cleverness no one else can see.
